Search all my 300+ web pages! Simply type in what you are looking for. "Penny Black", "Latvia", "Imprints", "Morocco", "Fungi" "Year Books", etc! Using quotes ( " ) is more accurate for multi word searches - i.e. "Australian FDC" gives FAR more specific matches than simply Australian FDC if used with no quotes. Search is NOT case sensitive. Tip - keep the search word singular - "Machin" yields far more matches than "Machins" etc. |

The $1 stamp enlarged. I can't find any other Royal Wedding stamps showing just Lady Diana and Sarah Ferguson together as shown here. Therefore this is a great stamp to have discovered in Tete-Beche error format like this.

Offer Number #3
Lady
Diana Stamp Errors.
Well,
I get to be offered all sorts of things in this business.
How about the apparent first offering after 15 years laying
un-recognised, of Lady Diana stamps printed Tete-Beche???!!
I bought them cheap, and am selling them cheap. They may well be worth TEN times my silly low price of a few dollars each from error specialists or mainline dealers. As usual, my business logic holds fast – “you can’t go broke making a fast profit”! In a short time they’ll all be sold. And so what if they later get auctioned etc … it is not my worry.
Tete-Beche stamps are of course those
printed upside down in relation to their neighbour.
This was not uncommon in the mid 19th Century early issues
from many countries but are seldom seem on modern stamps, as there is no logical
reason to print them thus. I
was just offered a few sheets of Tuvalu 1986 Royal Wedding stamps all fresh Mint
unhinged, and in blocks,
gutter blocks, and strips of
4, and
all were printed tete-beche.
Neither Stanley Gibbons nor Scott mentions these tete-beche versions exist - even in a footnote. Gibbons simply say that the 60c and $1 Tuvalu set of 4 were issued se-tenant throughout the sheet. This is how I have seen them and handled them in all the collections Of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson 1986 Royal Wedding I’ve seen over the past 15 years. This set of course had a lovely $1 stamps depicting Fergie alongside Lady Diana. I don’t think there were any other stamps in the entire Omnibus that depicted Diana alongside Fergie. Stamps depicting Lady Diana are about THE hottest things on the stamp market. Tens of thousands of collections revolve strictly around Diana stamps, such was her enduring charm and personality and appeal.
Gibbons do mention that this set of 4 exists imperf, as the Tuvalu Royal Wedding stamp booklet was issued IMPERFORATE in these designs, in a block 4 of each stamp, but these were NOT tete-beche.
These stamps I have here came from the estate of a dealer who it is understood bought this folder of Tuvalu stamps some 20 years back from the liquidator of Format International Security Printers Ltd, who produced this set. The folder simply had written on it - “Diana error stamps … tete-beche.” I surmise these stamps were printed in the large sheet format needed to be used for the stamp booklets, but were subsequently perforated as a trial or experiment. Who knows for certain – after two decades, we probably never will.
As all readers know, a striking error in modern stamps is very valuable. Imperfs or missing colours and major errors often sell for several $100 each, even when from countries that are otherwise “un-popular”. The sum such pieces obtain is largely dependent on the SUBJECT MATTER on the stamp design. An error on a BIRD or ORCHID stamp will sell for MUCH more than a stamp from the same country depicting a freeway, cultural scene, or smiling leader of an African state etc!
Royalty is highly collected, and Lady Diana is even more sought than ANY other Royal topic. Tuvalu is not madly popular of course, but this set IS part of the British Commonwealth Royal Wedding approved issue. The set of 4 stamps is denominated in $Australian currency, which is used in Tuvalu. Thus a set of 4 has a face value of $A3.20 and these blocks 4 have a face value of $A6.40. My price for this major error in se-tenant, tete-beche blocks is only about SIX TIMES FACE VALUE in the Offer # 5 below! Do the maths, and you will understand why these will sell FAST.
I have the error in THREE formats, and of course all are fresh mint unhinged condition. “A picture tells a thousand words”, and you can see here EXACTLY what I am selling. Looking at these photos you’ll see what I mean.

Walk these to your nearest stamp dealer and you may get offered several times
what I am asking. I bet your nearest dealer has never sighted these before!
If these were offered at auction, for retail sale, in circuit books or better still, on eBay etc …… selling for 5 or 10 times my price this would not surprise me at all. Think about it. Dealers and Auctions WILL buy these off this list, take my word for it. Not often you can get a 500% or 1000% return on your money in this business!
All sales will be billed in Australian dollars. All credit cards accepted without fee.)
