Not ONLY the $US, but Sterling and the EURO are also incredibly strong against our pathetic little currency. I buy 99% of my stock locally - I am thought to be the largest stamp buyer in Australia's largest city, so I pay in Pacific Pesos and sell in Pesos, hence the incredible savings to ALL overseas buyers. If you buy via "Auction" (even if you are an Australian resident) you are always paying 15-20% "buyer premium", plus GST/VAT type taxes and other charges in many cases. That can add 30% to the hammer price of the stamps! There is NO sales tax or "premium" or GST/VAT of any kind added to orders from the list below, no matter WHERE I mail the goods. |

131. Sierra Leone 1896 £1 Queen
Victoria bright used strip of FIVE on original piece:
One of the scarcest used Queen
Victoria £1 high values of the entire Commonwealth.
Deep original colour as it has totally unsoaked
- the moment these violet on red high
values are soaked in water, about 50% of the deep orange
colour is lost, and much of the violet - an
anti-cleaning device, using special fugitive type
inks. You end up with a washed-out drab pinkish blur!
The colour "in the flesh" is actually much nicer than
on this scan.
Neatly manuscript
cancelled "9/3/97". Stunning condition for well over
100 years sold. Heck even if torn into 5 singles (very
logical looking at the cancels) you are paying just $70
each for a £450 cat. stamp! SG #53 £2,250 = $A$5,500.

132. 1963/65 Navigator Set 6
to £2 in FU blocks 4: Unique lot
– postally used in 1963/5. Clean used, with dated circular
cancels. As you can see from photo here these are VFU
POSTAL used blocks each with DIFFERENT dated cds cancels
from different post offices. They must surely be UNIQUE
thus? What on earth was £8 for the top value used for in
1965? A HUGE sum 40 years back when a letter cost only 5d
to mail, and Registered post was only 2/3d or 27 pence!

133. Australia 1932
Bridge COMMERCIALLY Superb Used:
First really nice one I've handled in about 15
years. In that time I've sold 100s of corner CTO
5/- Bridges from specimen packs, and many,
many dozens of mint copies - and often imprint
strips of 3 and 6. None of these are hard to
locate. However a POSTAL used copy is quite another
animal. The few genuine used ones nearly all have
horrid Melbourne parcel centre cancels etc.
I recall seeing a
Rod Perry auction several years back get 3 times the
price for a nice commercially used Bridge like this,
versus the usual string of 5/- CTO full gums in the
same sale. A few keen collectors were all madly
determined to own it. And so it will be with this
one. Grab it now, as you
will likely not seen another like it for another
decade.
This is 'one in a
thousand'. Fresh and well centred with good perfs.
Impossible to improve upon. As the Americans call
these cancels - "Socked On
The Nose" - a perfect upright, crisp,
Claremont Western Australia "4 Oct 32" cds. Priced
at only a nice hinged copy rate, despite postally
used being 1,000 times scarcer. -

135. Victoria 1884
£12 POSTAL Franking on neat
'Bank Of New Zealand' parcel cut-out! :
Amazing. If this had £12 of Australian
First Watermark £1 and £2 Kangaroos on
it I'd be asking $25,000. About twenty
times as much as my asking price here.
I cannot recall EVER
seeing this a high face postal
franking from
any
Australian state.
100% genuine and 100%
guaranteed POSTAL used.
The Victoria £2 and £10 used on a large
Registered 'Bank Of New Zealand' package
- presumably to London or NZ head
office. Cancelled with the usual
Melbourne GPO oval "R" cancel for
Registered parcel use. The piece has
that strong cotton fine-grid
backing affixed to reverse of piece,
as used to line nearly all heavy duty
bank envelopes in this era, to avoid
splitting en-route etc.
Both stamps and piece are
both in lovely condition as you can
see. No toning, and no tears,
pinholes or crayon marks etc. An
outstanding piece that will always be a
talking point whether exhibited or shown
to your friends at the club etc. Parcel
pieces bearing Australian high value
Kangaroos are going through the roof in
the past 2 years. The ACSC now
catalogues that useage, and often it
is REALLY high compared to stamps
off
piece. 50 times more in some
cases. That trend will
spread to the States high values, mark
my words.
Whenever and wherever you
sell your collection this piece will
ALWAYS be a highlight
photo lot in the auction sale. For
anyone buying nice looking pieces for
their self-managed Superannuation fund
you could hardly go fast this sort of
"eye-appeal" item.
Kellow records that only
28,000 of this £10 were
printed from 1884 to 1901 when they were
all postally valid. (Even the £2 is
scarce and 112,000 were printed.) There
is no record that all these 28,000 x
£10 were used, and CTO examples were
also part of this small printing. I
have handled several fiscally cancelled
over the years and with 28,000 maximum
existing in ANY condition, even those
are clearly scarce stamps and get good
prices. (As a relevant yardstick the
1913 £2 Kangaroo had 240,000 printed -
about ten times more, and none were
used fiscally, and yet a FU copy price
is now priced $4,500
each for top copies.
Retail on that stamp has gone nuts in
the past year. )
Not many of the Victoria
high value 'Stamp Duty' series over £1
ever saw POSTAL use - which they were
fully authorised to fulfil of course.
They mostly were used as revenues and
fiscals, and have pen cancels, violet
rubber stamps, pinholes, crayon cancels
etc. A good number on the market also
have crisp Melbourne CTO cancels from
the collector presentation sets. But
that is NOT postal use! $A1,250

stamp is now invoiced at
$1,265. All
depends on whether possibly saving $265 is important to you I guess.
